Introduction

Public Figure is an alternative rock band that has made a name for them with music that is full of energy, coupled with saccharine hooks. Coming out of Omaha, Nebraska, the group has developed a name for having high-energy live performances and stellar bonding with its fans. Drawing inspiration from popular acts like The Strokes, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Maroon 5, Public Figure has been popular with singles like “Poor and Pretty,” “Better Sleep,” and “Hollywood.” Those singles have helped the band build a following around Omaha and even out of town to help draw crowds of over hundreds and sell out shows.

Origins of Public Figure

Conceived in 2019 by Dolan Delano of Public Figure, the band’s roots were but a dream: to have the music created and shared that resonated not only with the band members themselves but with their audiences as well. Delano was enthusiastic about alternative rock, forming Public Figure after dabbling deep into the local music scene. Over time, the lineup cemented with the addition of RJ Klingsporn on guitar and John Faist on drums, both from a previous project, Chasing Chance. Rounding out the lineup was Roger Slatten, previous vocalist for the band Letterbox, as the lead singer. This conglomeration of seasoned musicians has enabled Public Figure to carve out a sound all their own, crossing over from indie rock into the mainstream.

Members’ Contributions and Roles

Everyone in Public Figure brings something different to the table and, in turn, contributes to the character and functionality of the band. Founding member Dolan Delano plays bass while managing social media and strategizing content to present a cohesive and compelling online persona. RJ Klingsporn handles the operations inside the band: equipment logistics to make sure the shows go smoothly. John Faist handles the networking and sales-related issues, which are crucial in terms of outreach for the band and developing a network in the music industry. Roger Slatten, other than being the lead vocalist, provided technical know-how as a sound and recording engineer, enhancing the audio quality of the band during live shows and studio sessions. Theirs is a collaborative approach to music, and in the way they work on their success—even down to each member taking on roles outside his musical contribution. For instance, all of them are active participants in ticket sales, and each contributes to their social media work for the band. This work ethic has allowed Public Figure to operate as though they are in the mindset of a startup: creating not just for the moment, but for long-term growth and sustainability regarding success in the music scene.

Building a Strong Fan-base

Public Figure’s live show and approach to interacting with fans has helped the band build a reputation in Omaha, and throughout surrounding cities such as Des Moines, Kansas City, and Minneapolis. Their energetic, professional live shows have made it not uncommon to see crowds of 200-600 people with larger gatherings of 300+ when they perform in Omaha. The band’s vision is to give more than just a concert, leading to the formation of community ties within it. They know that fans are not just those who permanently listen to them but meaningfully key players in their journey.

Strategic Business Approach

The commitment of Public Figure to professionalism follows how they approach their music careers. Other than many growing bands, they consider their band as a business where the needs of the audience have to be met with value creation through music and merchandise. They have been in collaboration with Kevin Gates at Reach Audio for the production of their music, making sure that the audio quality stays up to the mark. They have also used money to invest in self-produced backing tracks and an In-Ear Monitor system, adding an extra layer to the sound during live concerts. This technological investment helped them shine in live shows with a polished and immersive experience. This also makes the merchandise strategy of the band a key part of their business model. Partnering with local manufacturer 36 Apparel, Public Figure can rest easy knowing that fans get well-crafted merchandise that will last. It allows them to give out products that fans enjoy wearing, further reinforcing the band’s presence and brand in their community.

Influences and Musical Styles

Public Figure draws inspiration from alternative rock, pulling energies from bands known and characterized by their addictive hooks and charismatic live performances. The indie-rock vibe of The Strokes, the groovy rhythms of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the pop-infused melodies of Maroon 5 have inspired them. The blend allows the band Public Figure to craft songs that are both catchy and unique, all in service of this emotional consonance with their listenership. Music by Public Figure is fun, while at the same time being relatable; it simplifies becoming a fan after a couple of tracks.

Local Impact and Regional Presence

This certainly is a function of how nicely they connect with their audiences, and the strong regional presence that the band has been able to create for itself in the Midwest. Public Figure has built a following from Omaha to cities like Sioux City, Lincoln, and even as far away as Minneapolis. Their appearances in the involved cities have been sold out, and they have become an integral part of any alternative rock scene around since they perform really frequently and get very involved with the locals.

Future Aspirations

Public Figure is not satisfied by being merely local but looks ahead for long-term success in music. They would like to take up music as their lifetime profession and are willing to strive for that dream through relentless efforts. They also want to keep improving their skills and focus on professionalism so that a mark could be left in the music world for their lifetime. They believe that high standards in producing music, live performances, and connecting with fans can help them reach out to a wider audience, creating a longer-lasting mark within the alternative rock genre.
