Miley Cyrus Plays with Sia, Paris Hilton, and David Byrne

Sia yelled, “Ready for this?” as Miley Cyrus performed at her exclusive Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party. However, no one anticipated what would follow.

So, Sia joined Cyrus for the first verse of Paris Hilton’s 2006 performance of hit dance-pop “Stars Are Blind”. But to end the set, the group invited none other than Hilton herself to the stage.

“I told you I had another surprise!” Hilton said on Instagram of the reveal. “I had so much fun singing #StarsAreBlind on @MileyCyrus’ New Years Eve Special with Miley & @SiaMusic! The perfect way to ring in 2023 and celebrate my new version of this iconic song.”

While she released a remastered version of “Stars Are Blind” earlier in the week as a preview of her upcoming “brand new music” for 2023, Hilton’s attendance was a surprise for the celebrity-studded Miami event. was still a surprise to the audience.

She teased on Instagram after her attendance at the New Year’s celebration.

“I can’t wait to show you all the other exciting things I’m working on. This is only the beginning! Happy new year!” she added. 

“It’s Paris Hilton!” Sia yelled as they ended the performance.

“That’s hot!” Hilton responded into her microphone.

Miley’s New Year’s Eve party, hosted by Cyrus and Dolly Parton, was held on Saturday night in Miami on NBC. Rae Sremmurd of the group joined as a special guest.

Saturday Night Live’s Chloe Feynman, Comedy Central’s Sarah Sherman, and comedy group Please Don’t Destroy also made appearances.

Byrne Play

For the NBC holiday extravaganza Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party, Miley Cyrus performed on Friday night, December 31, alongside a cast of famous friends. At the event, she invited Dolly Parton and David Byrne to sing a number of duets together.

The lead track from his 2018 album American Utopia, “Everybody’s Coming to My House,” was performed by Cyrus alongside Talking Heads singer David Byrne. Together with Byrne, she also performed the classic “Let’s Dance” by David Bowie.

A backing band that included a brass section, keyboardists, guitars, backing vocalists, and more was present for both performances. The performance can be seen here.

2020 saw the release of Cyrus’ seventh studio album, Plastic Hearts. She followed up the release earlier this year with Attention: Miley Live, a 26-track album of songs that were partially recorded during her appearance at the Super Bowl Music Fest in November 2021.

Miley Ray Cyrus, also known as Destiny Hope Cyrus (/mali sars/ MY-lee SY-rs), is an American actress, singer, and songwriter. She performs songs in a variety of genres and styles, such as pop, country, rock, hip-hop, and experimental music.

With a total of thirteen entries, she has the most female artist’s top-five albums on the US Billboard 200 in the twenty-first century.

The daughter of country music artist Billy Ray Cyrus, Cyrus rose to fame as a teen idol while playing Hannah Montana on the Disney Channel television series (2006–2011).

She achieved two number-one and three top-five soundtracks as Hannah Montana, including the top-ten US Billboard Hot 100 single “He Could Be the One.”

The US number-one albums 2007’s Meet Miley Cyrus, 2008’s Breakout, and 2013’s Bangerz are all in Cyrus’s catalog. 

Other top-five albums include Can’t Be Tamed (2010), Younger Now (2017), Plastic Hearts (2020), and the free Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz album (2015). In addition, the Time of Our Lives EP from 2009 and the She Is Coming EP from Cyrus both made their debuts in the top five.

Cyrus’ most well-known song, Plastic Hearts, debuted at the top of the Billboard Rock Chart as well as being her first entry.

Her other singles include the number-one single “Wrecking Ball,” as well as the US top 10 singles “See You Again,” “7 Things,” “The Climb,” “Party in the U.S.A.,” “Can’t Be Tamed,” “We Can’t Stop,” “Malibu,” and “Without You.” 

“Party in the USA” received Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in 2020, recognizing 10 million single sales.

Honors Received by Cyrus

Among Cyrus’ career accomplishments are her appearances on the Time 100 list in 2008 and 2014, her win of the MTV Best Artist of 2013 Award, and her inclusion on the Billboard Greatest of All Time Artists chart in 2019.

Furthermore, she earned a ranking as the sixth greatest female artist in Billboard 200 history.

She has won 19 Teen Choice Awards, one People’s Choice Award, four World Music Awards, three MTV Video Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, a GLAAD Media Award, and two Billboard Music Awards.

One of the few successful child performers who transitioned to singing is Cyrus.

She has appeared in movies as an actor, including Bolt (2008), Hannah Montana: The Movie (2009), The Last Song (2010), LOL (2012), and So Undercover (2013). 

On television, Cyrus participated in the episode “Rachel, Jack and Ashley Too” from the Netflix series Black Mirror (2019), served as a coach on the singing competition program The Voice for two seasons, and presented the special Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party on NBC (2021–present).

Her other projects include the documentary Miley: The Movement and the video series Backyard Sessions (2012–2020). (2013). In late 2014, she established the nonprofit Happy Hippie Foundation, which focuses on the LGBT community and adolescent homelessness.
