Glory to comedy like no other.
Bruce Almighty screenwriters Steve Coren and Mark O’Keeffe recently shared that they’ve come up with a very good idea for a sequel to Jim Carrey’s 2003 film. But it never came into fruition.
Tentatively titled Brucifer, the idea covers the opposite of the concept of Almighty. It also featured the character of Carrey, who made a deal with the devil.
Korena and O’Keefe said in an interview with Syfy Wire that they tried to convince Universal Pictures to nod on the pitch in 2010. However, Carrey approved the idea, but the studio didn’t back down.
“It would have been another giant movie. And I don’t think they wanted to do it,” Koren stated. “It just didn’t work out for some reason, but a lot of people loved it, including Jim.”
An alleged follow-up chronicles Bruce’s approach to the dark side following the death of his wife, Grace. Surprisingly, he fell in love with Grace in the first part.
“You tend to lose your faith when the world seems unfair. And that’s what got him,” Koren stated.
“It came from a serious place, but we were gonna write it in a very friendly way. We certainly didn’t want to depress people. So, I think that scared [the studio] a little bit. But to Jim’s credit, he totally understood that we were going to make a big comedy and thought everybody would connect with it.”

Bruce is Lucifer
And then Bruce playfully used his new satanic sideline to bring Grace back to life. The socket? According to Carrey’s suggestion, Aniston’s character would first appear as a horribly disfigured zombie.
“We had her come back as Jennifer Aniston,” Koren recounted the original pitch. “[Carrey] said, ‘No, she has to look like a zombie first and then we’ll make her beautiful again.’ We thought that was brilliant.”
O’Keefe elaborated that the Book of Job would’ve inspired Bruce’s character progress in the Old Testament.
“The world had not gone his way since he was God,” he stated. “Everything was great for a while. He was married, and it all fell apart. He was once again questioning everything and then got a different way to solve things.”
Brucifer might’ve also witnessed the comeback of one very loved actor. O’Keefe stated that they thought Carrey or Morgan Freeman would come back to play Satan this time. Freeman famously portrayed God in the first film.
“Totally different themes, of course, but the beats every enjoys,” O’Keefe said.
Bruce Almighty’s critical and commercial acclaim did birth a spin-off in 2007 titled Evan Almighty. It saw Steve Carell get involved in a few biblical high spells.
However, it would be a chilly day in hell before Brucifer can make its way to the big screen.

Carrey in Film
Carrey, a Canadian-American actor and comedian, is famous for his hilarious performances on screen.
After starring in the American sketch comedy In Living Color, he first drew recognition in 1990.
Then, he gained higher stardom status with 1994’s Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber. Furthermore, films like 1995’s Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, Batman Forever, and 1997’s Liar Liar came.
It became the start of a career everybody grew to love and laugh about.
