Ámaris’ newest single, “Different” is scheduled to be released on November 10th This latest single continue the artist’s journey into electronic and electronica to create subtle affective experiences, including comfort, solace, and struggle.
“Different” captures the lived experience of mental health struggles, and the personal transformation that ensues from living through such struggles. In particular, focuses on how the unrecognizability and indeterminacy of a genuine beginning can be overwhelming.
The track delves into the lived experience of mental health struggles, vividly depicting the personal evolution that occurs through such challenges. It brilliantly conveys the tumultuous journey of stepping into the unknown and embracing change. The staccato rhythm of the song mirrors the tentative steps taken on the thin precipice of uncharted territory, evoking both the melancholy and the flickering moments of indeterminate liberation.
The staccato feel of the song traces the way one dances lightly on the thin edges of previously uncharted territory, all the while invoking the sublime experience of change, where sadness accompanies the flickering of indeterminate moments of freedom.
For Amaris, artists have the power to lift their audience out of the ossifying rhythm and patterns of everyday life, and in doing so, allow for new emergent possibilities and for the re-combining of captured potentialities in new ways.
Hence, she explains, “I believe in the power of escapism for the sake of our sanity. As a creative, I see my role as providing an avenue for people to escape from the challenges and complexities of their lives, even if only for a while.”
Amaris’ music does not just talk about the role of combining different elements to produce a new form, it becomes that notion. Her noteworthy mixing of genres such as electronica, R& B, and pop “have defined her music as being genre-defying,” and, as such breaks old forms and produces a new indeterminate form.
“Creativity is my fuel,” says Amaris, “I can rely on it. I’d say that this is probably my actual skill.”
Amaris, whose real name is Amaris Emersleden, puts the skill to use in a variety of venues. She is a music producer, a fantasy author, is a music producer (“Love and Oceans”, “Dream World”), fantasy author (“Lagoona: A Journey through the Reef”), and actor.
She went to drama school in Zurich, and interest in electronic music began when she was studying dance at the Stage and Musical School in Frankfurt Germany. She then started the dance floor project “Geiko– female electronic dance music”, the first album of which was released in 2014. From there, she released “a synth-pop-influenced” album, Neon Colours that was well-received by critics.
In 2018, she released “Aquamarine”, an album inspired by the oceans. In 2020, Amaris released “Dream World”, with the song “Dream World” receiving 100k streams on Spotify alone.
With the release of “Different,” Amari captures the feeling of “drifting” that comes when an authentic change happens. That is, when one truly breaks from the past and charter into a space that defies pre-existing meanings. Indeed the cover artwork for the song is “a striking visual representation of the song’s essence, having been shot on a river.”
