Jesse & The Hogg Brothers are carving out a unique place in the music world as one of the distinctive acts in the CowPunk genre. Since their formation in 2009, they have grown from a humble Texas country cover band into the self-proclaimed “1st Family of Texas CowPunk,” gaining a devoted fanbase and widespread recognition for their blend of humor, musicality, and energetic performances. Their story is one of reinvention, relocation, and relentless creativity, with their music resonating across the U.S. and beyond.
The journey of Jesse & The Hogg Brothers began in Texas, where band leader, lead vocalist, songwriter, and percussionist Jesse Braintree, alongside his cousin Neil Hogg, started playing country covers before writing and recording original songs. Their early albums, White Trash Meth Lab and Working for Yankee Money, garnered praise from critics for combining sharp wit with genuine country roots. As Rocktober Magazine noted, the band’s music isn’t just about white-trash humor—it also pays homage to traditional country and bluegrass sounds. This combination of humor and musicality set them apart from the start.
In 2013, Jesse moved the band to Boston, where they quickly found success, performing at the JP Music Festival and recording their Rusty Loved Christmas EP. This EP featured the single “Don’t Mess With Christmas,” which recounts the true story of the 1927 Santa Claus Robbery in Cisco, Texas. With a changing lineup of talented musicians, including Merle Hogg, Stevie-Joe, Jolene Hogg, and Jesse’s daughter Lisa Mari Hogg, the band’s sound evolved, blending more punk energy into their country roots. It was during a show in Las Vegas, where country music was banned, that Jesse coined the term “CowPunk” to describe their sound—a pivotal moment in the band’s development.
Though CowPunk originated in the UK and California in the late 1970s and early ’80s, Jesse & The Hogg Brothers put their Texas spin on the genre, establishing themselves as a key act within this musical niche. Their high-energy shows and humorous performances became their hallmark, and the band’s lineup continued to shift and grow, featuring a range of multi-instrumentalists who brought different styles to the stage. Despite the comedic edge of their performances, Jesse & The Hogg Brothers remained serious about their craft, ensuring their music always struck the right balance between humor and authenticity.
Their third studio album, Get Hammered, received widespread acclaim, with publications like Hollywood Digest and Razorfish praising the band for their clever lyrics and tight musicianship. As Hollywood Digest noted, the album was “nothing short of a spectacularly solid effort,” while Razorfish lauded their fusion of punk rock and country music as fresh and modern, with an “angry punch” reminiscent of earlier CowPunk legends. The band’s ability to subvert expectations while staying true to their musical roots has kept fans engaged, with each new release pushing the boundaries of the genre.

A defining moment for the band came in 2022 when they appeared in the horror-comedy film Attack of the Killer Chickens – The Movie, contributing much of the soundtrack and performing live in the film. The movie went on to win Best Horror Comedy at the San Diego Film Festival, further cementing the band’s status as both musicians and entertainers. This venture into the world of B-movie cinema showcased their versatility and added another dimension to their growing reputation.
Jesse & The Hogg Brothers have also embraced the digital age, building a significant online presence. With over 10,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and popular YouTube videos such as “Wife Swapping Party” garnering over 124,000 views, the band has successfully reached fans across different platforms. Their fanbase, known as the “Hoggaholics,” continues to grow, drawn by the band’s unique mix of CowPunk music and comic relief. Online appearances on shows such as Radio Artifact, Monsterpiece Theater, Barside Jive Live, and CrossFire Radio’s Fenders Den of Sin have further boosted their visibility, while streaming success has solidified their place in the modern music landscape.
Their performances across the country, North-South from Wisconsin to Texas or East-West from Massachusetts to Nevada, have seen Jesse & The Hogg Brothers playing over 300 shows in venues large and small. Their adaptability in live shows, where band members swap in and out depending on availability, ensures that no two performances are exactly alike. The core lineup currently includes Jesse, Kenny Hogg, CJ5 Hogg, Pappy Hogg, and Hester Hogg, but audiences know to expect surprises at any given show as Kash Hogg, Stevie-Joe Hogg and The Great JoeBob Hogg might pop in at any time.

Looking ahead, the band is gearing up for their next major release: a 2025 album titled Songs About Food and Other Things. While details of the new album remain under wraps, it is expected to build on the creative energy and humor that have become the band’s trademarks. With their previous albums setting a high bar, fans are eagerly anticipating the next chapter in the band’s musical journey. In the meantime, singles like “La Luz De Saratoga,” their upcoming third release in Spanish, show their willingness to experiment with different languages and styles.
Jesse & The Hogg Brothers’ story is one of constant evolution, marked by their move from Texas to Boston, and now to Southern Indiana, where they are currently based. The band’s members, all taking on the last name “Hogg” (with the exception of Jesse, who humorously claims, “My Mother Was a Hogg”), continue to embody the spirit of CowPunk with every performance. Their blend of music and comedy has been compared to a true variety show, offering something for everyone, and ensuring that they stand out in the crowded world of indie music.
With their unique sound, dynamic live performances, and growing fanbase, Jesse & The Hogg Brothers show no signs of slowing down. As they prepare for the release of their 2025 album, the band is poised to continue their journey as one of the distinctive and entertaining acts in the CowPunk scene. Whether they’re performing live, releasing new music, or making appearances in B-movies, Jesse & The Hogg Brothers are a band that defies convention and keeps fans coming back for more.
