“I’ve been in pain with my back for, like, half of my life, really,” Adele said. “It flares up, normally due to stress or from a stupid bit of posture.”
Adele’s back pain is caused by sciatica, a health condition that affects the sciatic nerve in the body.
Sciatica can be caused by a “herniated disk or an overgrowth of bone puts pressure on part of the nerve,” according to the Mayo Clinic. This can lead to inflammation, pain, and numbness in the lower back, hips, glutes, or legs.
Despite her chronic back pain, Adele has not let it stop her from performing at her sold-out, show-stopping concerts. She continues to deliver powerful performances, singing fan favorites such as “Hello,” “Set Fire to the Rain,” “I Drink Wine,” and “Rolling in the Deep.”
