If you read below, you can see that we have compiled some of our favourites as the top 5 children’s movies to watch with your family this week. Feel free to watch these movies online on HBO Max NZ easily!
1. Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo is one of our favourite movies, as it focuses on the struggles of a single parent in an innocent, child-friendly way.
Nemo is a young clownfish that is taken hostage by humans to be sold and mishandled by children.
His father struggles long and hard to track him down, dodging many obstacles, including deadly fishes, traps, dead ends, and much more.
He is joined on his journey to hunt his son by a friendly and slightly quirky fish, Dory. The two initially have an annoying interaction, but they later become friends and use their strength to find Nemo and bring him back home together.
It is a great watch, especially if you have children under the age of 10 who would love watching this movie, and you could also use the plot to teach them various vital lessons, like companionship, teamwork, treating your pets with respect, etc.
2. Harry Potter
If you are a Potterhead like us, this movie series would also be on top of your list. Harry Potter revolves around the plot of a half-blood orphan whose parents were killed mercilessly by a dark wizard, Lord Voldemort.
His custody is given to his maternal aunt and uncle, who treat him horribly, and he ends up having an abusive childhood.
Finally, he is rescued at the age of 11 by people in the wizarding world who believe that it’s now time for him to join a magical school created for children who have supernatural abilities in them.
As he grows into a young adult, the horrors of the wizarding world and the allies of Lord Voldemort unite against him, making him prepare for one final battle to defeat him forever and restore an ever-lasting peace.
3. Moana
Moana is one of the children’s movies with a very refreshing plot that is not only away from unnecessary romance but also gives a lot of depth to the main female protagonist.
The theme is that Moana, the daughter of Chief Tui, goes on a mission to return the heart of the goddess Te Fitti from Maui, a demigod.
She goes on this mission to save her island from being perished after a blight. This is a fascinating watch and would make a great movie time if you have female children at home to show them what a positive female role model looks like.
4. Inside Out
Inside Out is one of the most important movies for children to better understand and regulate their emotions.
This is a great movie to teach children to recognize their feelings and improve their EQ. The storyline of this movie is about a young girl, Riley, who has to move to another state with her family and is struggling to make peace with a whole new environment, new people, and new places.
The movie focuses on the core five emotions she experiences: Fear, Anger, Joy, Disgust, and Sadness.
5. Frozen
Lastly, we recommend that you watch Frozen due to its unique plotline about the never-ending love between two sisters amidst the romantic relationships which surround the characters.
It is a fun movie for little girls who love the princess vibe with a frozen castle, sparkly dresses, and a catchy theme song (Let It Go!).
Anna, a young princess, sets off on a long journey to find her lost sister, Elsa, who can turn any object or human into ice.
The movie focuses on the friction between the two sisters as they strive to live life safely and together. So far, there are two parts of this movie, each catching widespread attention from the public.
