On “O V R T H I N K,” the producer-turned-vocal artist draws from memory, guilt, heartbreak, and personal experience to introduce listeners to the person behind the music.

For Thxrsday, songwriting begins with something that happened.

Born in Thornton, Colorado, and raised in Tennessee, the artist has built his music around emotion and memory, using experiences from his own life as the starting point for songs that leave enough room for listeners to recognize pieces of themselves. His single ”O V R T H I N K,” from the album of the same name, offers a clear example of that approach.

The solemn, vulnerable track reflects on a past relationship from Thxrsday’s perspective, including the complicated emotions that remained afterward. Rather than distancing himself from those feelings, he brought them directly into the song.

“When I made the song, I was feeling a little guilty personally, but I hope people can translate the situation I talk about in the song to their own situations,” he said.

That balance between autobiography and relatability sits at the center of his work. “O V R T H I N K” may come from his experience, but its emotional territory is deliberately open to anyone who has replayed a relationship in their mind and wondered what they could have done differently.

From the Boards to the Mic

Thxrsday first developed his musical identity as a producer. Now, as he moves further into life as a vocal artist, he has found that giving up some control over the production process can help him concentrate on what he wants to say.

“I started as a producer, but ironically, as a vocal artist, I like working with other producers,” he said. “That way I already have a beat to use.”

That change puts his attention on the stories and emotions carried by his vocals. On “O V R T H I N K,” the production gives those ideas room to breathe. A guitar carries the melody while skittering drums bring movement to the alternative rap track. The guitar-based arrangement establishes the subdued atmosphere behind a song rooted in reflection and regret.

It also matches a writing process that depends heavily on recalling particular moments and the feelings attached to them.

“My songwriting is very emotion and memory-focused,” Thxrsday said. “I like writing about experiences I’ve had and the emotions I felt within them. However, I still try to make the stories I tell relatable to people so they can see themselves in them.”

Turning Experience Into Music

For many listeners, music provides a place to process difficult emotions. Thxrsday approaches creation in much the same way.

After finding that traditional therapy was not working for him in the past, he began using music to express thoughts and feelings that needed somewhere to go. Writing became a way to take some of the emotional weight of his experiences and give it a musical form.

That process helps explain why vulnerability plays such an important role in his songs. The details originate in his life, but Thxrsday remains conscious of the line between honesty and revealing too much.

Personal songwriting can expose both the artist and the people who appear indirectly within the stories being told. Thxrsday avoids sharing certain specifics for that reason. Holding back some details also serves another purpose: it allows the experience to become less narrowly his own.

A listener does not need to have lived through his exact relationship to understand guilt, heartbreak, affection, or the tendency to overthink what happened. By focusing on those emotions, Thxrsday can make music that functions as an outlet on both sides. Creating it gives him a way to express what he has carried, while hearing it may give someone else language for a feeling they recognize.

An Introduction Through Experience

That philosophy extends beyond one song. The album “O V R T H I N K” serves as Thxrsday’s introduction as an artist stepping out from behind the production boards and telling his own stories through his voice.

“This album is an introduction to who I am as a person,” he said. “The heartbreak, the love, the luxury, just everything I’ve been through.”

Instead of separating those experiences into a polished artist persona, Thxrsday has made them part of the introduction. The relationships, memories, conflicting emotions, and moments that shaped his life become the material through which listeners get to know him.

“O V R T H I N K,” both the single and album, is out now.
