Rostam Announces New Album “American Stories” and 2026 World Tour
Rostam Batmanglij, the former member of Vampire Weekend and a well-known producer, is returning to the spotlight with his third solo album titled American Stories. This new record is set for release on May 15, 2026, through his own label, Matsor Projects, and Secretly Distribution. It marks his first solo studio project since 2021, and he will support the release with an extensive concert tour across North America and Europe starting in late May 2026.
A New Musical Direction
This album represents a big step for Rostam because it mixes his Iranian heritage with American music styles. While his previous work often focused on indie rock and electronic pop, American Stories explores a blend of Americana and traditional Persian sounds. To create this unique feel, Rostam used an instrument called a saz, which is a traditional Persian string instrument. He played microtonal melodies on the saz and placed them over classic Western guitar chords.
Rostam explained that this method helps show the “rub” or the connection between his two identities. He wants the music to reflect what it feels like to be Iranian-American today. Experts in the music industry describe the project as one of his most ambitious works because it combines very different cultural motifs.
Famous Friends and Collaborators
Rostam did not work on this album alone. He invited several talented friends to help him. One of the most exciting collaborations is with the singer Clairo, who performs on a song called “Hardy.” Rostam and Clairo have worked together before, so fans are happy to see them team up again. Another important contributor is Tobias Jesso Jr., a famous songwriter who helped write several songs on the tracklist.
To keep the Persian influence authentic, Rostam also worked with Amir Yaghmai, an Iranian-American musician from the band The Voidz. This group of artists helped Rostam create a sound that is both modern and rooted in history.
Symbolic Artwork and Themes
The look of the album is just as important as the sound. The cover art features an upside-down American flag. In a recent interview, Rostam mentioned that this is a symbol that can mean many things depending on who is looking at it. He wants people to think about different social and political ideas when they see the artwork and hear the songs.
The lead single from the album, “Like a Spark,” is already available to listen to. Rostam also released a video of himself performing the song in a studio session. This gives listeners a good idea of the artistic direction he is taking with the full record.
The 2026 World Tour
Following the album release in May, Rostam will hit the road for a long tour. The tour starts on May 27, 2026, in San Diego, California. He will visit many major cities in the United States, including Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. He is also playing shows in Canada, with stops in Vancouver and Toronto.
After finishing the North American leg of the tour, Rostam will travel to Europe in September 2026. He has scheduled performances in London, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, and Stockholm. Tickets for these shows go on sale to the general public on March 13, 2026. Some shows will feature special opening acts like Zsela and Henry Solomon.

Why This Album Matters
In the music world, Rostam is known as a “producer’s producer.” This means other musicians look up to him because he is very good at making songs sound perfect. He has produced hits for stars like Carly Rae Jepsen and the band Haim. However, American Stories is a personal project where he gets to tell his own story.
Music critics note that this album is a highly anticipated chapter in his career. It shows how he has grown from being a band member to a solo artist who can blend complex cultural history with catchy pop music. By using his own label, Matsor Projects, Rostam also has more creative freedom to make exactly the kind of music he wants.
The tracklist for the album includes nine songs:
Like a Spark
Back of a Truck
Different Light
Hardy (featuring Clairo)
Forgive Is to Know
To Feel No Way
The Road to Death
Come Apart
The Weight
For fans who have been waiting five years for a new solo album, American Stories promises to be a deep and interesting journey into the mind of one of modern music’s most creative thinkers.
