The seminal “Sweetheart of the Rodeo” album, originally recorded by Gram Parsons and The Byrds, was released in August 1968 and featured Ball’s pivotal piano contributions. Moreover, JayDee Maness played pedal steel guitar on four tracks of the album, namely “The Christian Life,” “You Don’t Miss Your Water,” “You’re Still on My Mind,” and “Life in Prison.”

JayDee Maness is an American pedal steel guitarist who has been a veteran session musician in Los Angeles for over six decades. He is known for his work with many well-known musicians, including Gram Parsons, the Byrds, Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, Ray Stevens, Vince Gill, and the Desert Rose Band. Maness has won the Academy of Country Music’s “Steel Guitarist of the Year” award 18 times and was inducted into the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame in 2003.

Earl Poole Ball Jr. is an American singer-songwriter, pianist, and actor who has performed with legends like and Carl Perkins, Marty Stuart, Marty Robbins, Buck Owens & The Buckaroos. He is best known for his 20 years spent touring and recording with Johnny Cash from 1977 to 1997. His music spans Ameripolitan, Country, Americana, and Rockabilly genres, and he plays with bands like Heybale! and Earl Poole Ball’s Rockabilly Blues Band.
