OGEE1523 Spreading Happiness and Feel-good Vibes through Hip-hop in New Album, Never2Late

Music is meant to be enjoyed, and it’s refreshing to see musicians intentionally creating music for their audience to appreciate. Bronx rapper OGEE1523 has applied a level of intentionality to his craft, evident in his latest album, Never2Late.

As an upgrade to his 2020 7-track EP, Never2Old, the 13-track Never2Late was released officially in March 2022. The inspiration behind the album, according to OGEE1523, came from his desire to change the direction of Hip-hop music. “I just wanted to put the fun back into hip-hop; I want people to feel good when listening to my music. Whatever you do, you should feel good while doing it. If you’re having a bad day and listen to my music, I want that bad day to turn into a good day. Music is therapy, and therapy helps you feel better, and that is what inspired me to make this fun, feel-good album,” he said.

OGEE1523 made sure the Never2Late album contained more dance music and anthems to keep his listeners on their feet, dancing and having fun. Songs like “Getting EM Up” featuring FatMan Scoop and produced by Q-Banga, “Feel Good Today,” and “The B.C.E.,” a birthday song for people celebrating their birthdays every day worldwide, are proof of how much he hopes people to have fun while enjoying his music.

With the new album, OGEE1523 wants to see people of all ages realize that their dreams are valid and can come to pass. He wants to deliver the message that they should never sit back and accept the situations life throws at them. “Never sit back and think bad about yourselves. If you’re feeling sad or depressed, go outside and walk around. Don’t just sit at home and let yourself go. Whatever you like doing, please put it in your mind and do it; make it happen. There’s a lot to do. My message is to get out and start enjoying yourselves,” he said.

As Never2Late continues to enjoy success and garner listenership, OGEE1523 has started thinking about releasing more of his works, some of which have been lined up for the summer of 2022. In fact, he recorded a song, “You & Me,” featuring two-time Grammy Award-nominated and three-time Apollo Winner, Mr. Petawane. OGEE1523 will also be going on a ten-city tour with the Hip-hop Blvd Team and putting together a 1523 family affair concert for his family and friends.

Over the next few years, OGEE1523 hopes to grow as an artist, gain more fans, get his music on notable charts, and win awards. He shared that his ultimate goal is to win a Grammy Award and work with other notable artists in the entertainment industry. “I have so much in the works, and I see the next few years as the perfect timeframe to achieve all of that. Music is meant to be a way for people to unwind, relax and be happy. My music is liberating, and I hope they feel that liberation through the Never2Late album,” OGEE1523 said.

Metropolitan Museum of Art Exhibition Features Kimono Fashion

The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has displayed kimonos designed with polka dots, Cubist patterns and anime characters that have big eyes. This reveals how the East’s influence on the West is evident, and vice versa, through traditional Japanese clothing.

“Usually, when you think of fashion, you think of big brands made in the Western world. But the kimono also had a fashion system going back to the 17th century,” stated Monika Bincsik, Diane and Arthur Abbey Associate Curator for Japanese Decorative arts at the museum.

Co-hosted by the Met’s Japanese Gallery and Costume Institute, more than 60 kimonos were shown in the museum with Western dresses in the first show.

Bincsik further said, “The Japanese kimono had a big influence on Western fashion going back to the early 20th century.”

For instance, a kimono coat was created by French couturier Paul Poiret. Meanwhile, the bold geometric design in ‘Meisen’ kimonos of the early 1900s was based on Western abstract art.

The exhibit is open until February 20th.
