The Weeknd to Sing ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ Track

The Weeknd is about to join the alien empire in Avatar: The Way of Water. He will soon be given an honorary title among the Na’vi, another planetary species.

Grammy-winning singer Abel Tesfaye, known professionally as The Weeknd, has created a tune for the upcoming Avatar sequel. An excerpt of his new work was revealed online Sunday with words of anticipation and led to his theatrical debut on December 16th.

A listening pleasure that fits perfectly into the fantastical world of James Cameron’s visionary film series.

Music and science fiction collided. Jon Landau, the producer of his popular 2009 Avatar movie and its upcoming sequel, recently welcomed the acclaimed musician to join the film family on his social media.

Audiences can expect special treatment coming out of theaters: The Weeknd is contributing an original song for the closing credits of Disney’s upcoming film, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Cameron’s highly anticipated Avatar sequel, Avatar:The Way of Water is about to be released. This time, original heroes Jake and Neytiri take their children in tow and venture into the ocean world to build a life together.

Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldanha return to take the audience back to the enchanting landscape of Pandora.

Though the fate of Pandora and its diverse peoples is in jeopardy even before the first film, a familiar face – Colonel Quaritch (played by Stephen Lang) – returns to reignite tensions between the humans and the Na’vi.

Living now within an avatar body, it remains to be seen what conflict this bold move may spark against interplanetary powerhouse RDA (Resources Development Administration).

Avatar: The Way of Water

Cameron says the sequels are “one big contiguous saga when you see it all, but each film has its own off-ramp and finale that rounds it all out,” he said in an interview with EW last month.

“The best metaphor is really good episodic TV. The key to The Way of Water is to get you on the side of the characters, so you actually care about what happens next in their journey,” he added.

Cameron wryly revealed that after 15 years, Jake and Neytiri are embracing a more mature outlook on life.

“What we saw in the first film were people who were fearless,” Cameron stated.

“Jake would throw himself off his ikran onto a leonopteryx, but is a father of four going to do that? I’m thinking probably not because they have a duty to survive. It doesn’t mean he’s a coward, but it means his priorities change. He’s trying to keep his kids alive and trying to adjust his own life.”

An Array of Sequels

Cameron is planning an extraordinary series of Avatar follow-ups, cementing his legacy as a visionary in the filmmaking world.

With four films already released (Avatar: The Way of Water) or in production, Cameron is determined to make his fifth movie a success. Showing his dedication and realism simultaneously, he has scheduled its debut for 2028.

If Avatar’s third installment is in the offing, the filmmaker is ready to conclude this much-loved franchise. But if viewers sample his latest offering – Avatar: The Way of Water – that could open a new chapter for these fantasy adventures.

“The market could be telling us we’re done in three months, or we might be semi-done, meaning: ‘OK, let’s complete the story within movie three, and not go on endlessly,’ if it’s just not profitable,” Cameron said in an interview with Total Film.

“We’re in a different world now than we were when I wrote this stuff, even,” he continued. “It’s the one-two punch — the pandemic and streaming. Or, conversely, maybe we’ll remind people what going to the theater is all about. This film definitely does that. The question is: how many people give a s— now?”

Previous Installments

In the first Avatar installment, Sam Worthington stars as Jake Sully – an able-bodied Marine veteran in a wheelchair who embarks on an intergalactic journey to Pandora.

There, he finds himself immersed amongst the Na’vi natives of this distant moon and discovers his role within their society amidst increasing tensions between them and Earth’s colonists.

Set on the breathtaking and diverse planet of Pandora, Avatar follows Jake as he embarks on an incredible journey.

Through his company’s “Avatar Program,” he merges with a human/Na’vi hybrid body to explore the environment with unparalleled freedom – leading him straight into a passionate romance between himself and Neytiri (played by Zoe Saldaña).

With their intertwined destinies in play, they must fight for survival against clouded colonialist motives from RDA forces – making it one wild ride.

Avatar dazzled moviegoers when it premiered in 2009 and shattered expectations to become the most successful film ever.

Its record was challenged by Avengers: Endgame, but Avatar has proven its staying power with additional showings that cemented its place at the top of box office success stories.

Avatar: The Way of Water invites fans to dive back into the incredible world of Pandora years after Jake and Neytiri’s union. Through this journey, we’ll explore their new lives as they strive to keep a balance between family life and preserving harmony on the planet they call home.

Get ready for a wave of epic adventure. Avatar: The Way of Water rocks theaters this December 16, so check out the trailer to get just a taste.

Airbnb Offers ‘The Hobbit’ Set for Fans to Rent

If the real world holds you down and you’re in the mood for a journey in the fantasy world, then this is for you.

Airbnb now offers a flee from reality into the Shire. Or at least an escape toward the Hobbiton film set in New Zealand used for the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies.

The place used this PR stunt to capitalize on the fan-favorite film nostalgia. Its offer encompasses three two-night stays for at most four guests in Hobbiton. Furthermore, it includes a Hobbit-sized 10 New Zealand dollars (around $6) per night.

Originally, Hobbiton was a 1,250-acre sheep. Then, however, Peter Jackson laid his film-magic-making hands on it. In a span of nine months, Jackson’s team remade the Shire of J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy. They did it with extra hands from the New Zealand army.

And it included 39 temporary Hobbit Holes.

Only 17 bare plywood facades remained after they demolished the rest. However, Jackson came back in 2009 to shoot The Hobbit trilogy. Afterward, they left behind 44 permanently rebuilt Hobbit holes.

Airbnb Offer

And in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, the place permits guests to enter the holes for the first time in history.

“Overnight accommodation will be provided in The Millhouse, a two-bedroom Hobbit-inspired home with a writing nook fit for Bilbo Baggins, and homey décor curated by the trilogies’ creative director Brian Massey,” Airbnb elaborated in a statement.

Save the date.

Book starts at 10 am NZDT (4 pm ET) on December 14. This is for the three two-night stays on March 2 – 4, 9 – 11, and 16 – 18.

The Lord of the Rings

The title points to the tale’s major antagonist, the Dark Lord Sauron. So, the Dark Lord Sauron made the One Ring to surpass the other Rings of Power handed to Men, Dwarves, and Elves. It is part of his scheme to rule over Middle-earth.

They published The Lord of the Rings in a span of a year from July 29, 1954, to October 20, 1955, in three Volumes. It includes The Return of the King, The Two Towers, and The Fellowship of the Ring

Additionally, writer Tolkien divided the masterpiece into six books – two a volume.

The trilogy became so popular that it birthed many reprinted versions and translations into around 38 languages. Furthermore, it inspired several works of art such as paintings, music, films, television, video games, and board games.

The Hobbit

Also known as There and Back Again, The Hobbit is a children’s fantasy book. Tolkien published it in 1937 with critical success. Additionally, it received a nomination for the Carnegie Medal and bagged a prize for best juvenile fiction from the New York Herald Tribune

To this day, the novel remains as famous as it was.

In 2012, Peter Jackson produced a film based on a fantasy novel. Later, it birthed a trilogy that people will forever love. It includes The Battle of the Five Armies (2014), The Desolation of Smaug (2013), and An Unexpected Journey (2012).

The film series stars Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Ian McKellen, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, and many more high-profile actors.

Kanye West Reveals His Interest in Nazism and Like for Hitler

In another controversial instance, Kanye West took things a notch. After his anti-Semitic comments, West praised Adolf Hitler – a dictator.

In a lengthy interview on Thursday, the rapper shared his sentiments with scandalous conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. Jones recently received a court order to pay $965 million in damages for spreading false statements about the Sandy Hook mass shooting in 2012.

Kanye’s statements started following Jones, offering him an opportunity to step away from his anti-Semitic remarks on social media.

“You’re not Hitler; you’re not a Nazi, you don’t deserve to be called that and demonized,” he said.

“I see good things about Hitler also,” he added.

“This guy that invented highways invented the very microphone that I use every day as a musician. You can’t say out loud that this person ever did anything good, and I’m done with that. I’m done with the classifications. Every human being has something of value that they brought to the table, especially Hitler.”

But Hitler didn’t develop highways or the microphone. So perhaps the statement about highways is a mazed reference to the Autobahn – a road project in Germany that started ahead of the Nazis’ rise to power.

We can’t decipher where the microphone statement came from. But, as many know, Emile Berliner invented that technology while working with Thomas Edison in the 19th century.

At one point in the interview, Jones stated that he doesn’t like Nazis. Kanye then replied, “I like Hitler.”

“I don’t like the word ‘evil’ next to Nazis,” he stated. It came after Jones said, “CNN says white people are evil Nazis,” stirring up laughter from the host.

“I love Jewish people, but I also love Nazis,” Kanye added.

Kanye and Nazism

Throughout the interview, Kanye sported a black hood on his face. Furthermore, he mostly talked about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, mocking the newly re-elected politician. Netanyahu is a long-time ally of former President Donald Trump.

However, in recent times, the prime minister slammed Trump for meeting with Kanye and his white supremacist ally Nick Fuentes.

Kanye carried a net and a Yoo-Hoo chocolate milk can to try and ridicule Netanyahu.

“I just heard about this guy two weeks ago, and I thought he had a funny name,” he stated.

Although Kanye’s remarks sent a bombshell to the crowd and made Jones uncomfortable, it’s not the first time the mogul’s name has been linked to Hitler. In October, CNN reported that the Fuhrer fascinated the rapper. He even contemplated naming an album after him.

“He would praise Hitler by saying how incredible it was that he was able to accumulate so much power and would talk about all the great things he and the Nazi Party achieved for the German people,” an anonymous business exec who partnered with the mogul said.

According to the exec, Kanye didn’t hide his reading of Hitler’s 1925 manifesto Mein Kampf. Moreover, he openly talked about his “admiration” for the Nazis’ propaganda use.

Additionally, the source said Kanye’s closest friends know his fascination with Nazism. Another four unidentified sources stated that he intended to name his 2018 album Hitler ahead of changing it to Ye.

FIFA World Cup Has Remade ‘The Notebook’ Embrace

Soccer players from France Kylian Mbappé and Olivier Giroud seemed to mirror a romance classic after their win against Poland during the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

On Monday, Giroud’s final goal saw France win 3–0 in the 16th round. The win allowed France to advance to the quarter-finals.

After the win, Mbappe jumped into his teammate’s arms for joy. Since then, the photos have gone viral on social media. Fans even made comparisons to Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling’s famous hug and kiss in the 2004 romance film The Notebook.

Nicholas Sparks’ book of the same name inspired The Notebook. Also chronicled is the story of Noah Calhoun (Gosling), a poor factory worker in 1940s South Carolina who falls in love with a rich girl (McAdams).

Between 2005 and 2007, Gosling and McAdams had a relationship. After winning the award for best movie kiss at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards, they also recreated the kiss.

The Notebook Cast

It’s hard to imagine any other actor playing the Noah and Ally characters in the movie. But George Clooney shared a shocking revelation, saying he almost got the role of Gosling.

“And I was going to do it with Paul Newman. I was playing the flashback. And Paul Newman was the old guy,” he stated, pointing to the older Noah portrayed by the late James Garner.

“Paul and I talked about doing it. And we were sitting there one day, and I was looking at him. I go, ‘I can’t do this movie, Paul.'” Clooney recounted.

“He was like, ‘Why?’ I was like, ‘Because everybody knows what you look like at 30 years old. You got blue eyes. I got brown eyes. You’re too famous at 30 for me to be playing you at 30. It’s never gonna work.’ And he’s like, ‘I guess you’re right.’ We bailed out, and I think ten years later, they made it.”

Book Journey

The Notebook marked Nicholas Sparks’ first published novel. He wrote it in a period of six months in 1994.

Theresa Park, a literary agent, found Sparks by scanning her agency’s slush pile, picking a book, and reading it. Then, Park proposed to represent him.

Fast-forward to October 1995, and Park obtained a $1 million for the book from the Time Warner Book Group. And they published the novel in October 1996. It topped the list of the New York Times Best Seller in its first launch week.

The Notebook became a hardcover best-seller for over a year.

In his interviews, Sparks stated that he based the story on his wife’s grandparents. The couple had been married for over 60 years when he met them. In his novel, he attempted to depict the lone romantic love of that couple.

Apart from the film, the novel also inspired a television series. Writer Todd Graff developed the show. Furthermore, he executive produced it with Sparks and Park for Warner Bros. Television and Nicholas Sparks Productions.

Additionally, a musical adaptation is now underway. And it will be on Broadway.

Pedro Almodóvar Says ‘Stranger Way of Life’ Has an Interesting Dialogue

Filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar brings a new climax to his upcoming queer Western Stranger Way of Life.

In a recent episode of Dua Lipa’s At Your Service podcast, the filmmaker said the short – which is over half an hour long – possesses “the kind of dialogue that I don’t think a Western film has ever captured between two men.”

“This is a queer Western in the sense that there are two men, and they love each other,” Almodóvar elaborated in an interview with Lipa. “And they behave in that situation in an opposite way.”

The film follows two men who get together after not seeing each other for 25 years. Ethan Hawke portrays Sheriff Jake while Pedro Pascal plays Gunslinger Silva.

“One of them travels through the desert to find the other,” Almodóvar said in a June interview with IndieWire. “There will be a showdown between them. But really, the story is very intimate.”

Stranger Way of Life also explores some of the genre’s key tropes.

“It’s about masculinity in that deep sense because the Western is a male genre,” Almodóvar stated on the podcast. “It has the gunslinger. It has the ranch. And it has the sheriff. It has the town. It has the showdown.”

While the genre has long had a strange undercurrent, it’s only recently that westerns have begun to gain attention. It is credited with enduring his heteronormative challenges. This genre consists of films such as Brokeback Mountain (2005) and The Power of the Dog (2021).

Stranger Way of Life Genre

However, both films received criticism, especially from older cowboys. For example, Sam Elliott openly criticizes the homosexual scene in Jane Champion’s The Power of Dog. However, he later apologized for his remarks.

Almodóvar shared that he’ll uncover the final work at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The film is still in the process of editing.

“It’s something very different,” he shared with Lipa. “I mean, it’s another genre that I’ve never done before.”

Furthermore, he said Pascal and Hawke served as the perfect cowboys for the film.

“I’m very happy with both of them,” he said.

Stranger Way of Life also stars Manu Rios, Jose Condessa, Jason Fernandez, Sara Salamo, Erenice Lohan, Pedro Casablanca, and George Steane.

In August 2022, principal photography happened in Southern Spain – in the Tabernas Desert section of Almeria. Almodóvar filmed the movie in his own production company El Deseo in collaboration with Saint Laurent

Moreover, SL head designer Anthony Vaccarello served as associate producer and costume designer.

Additionally, the film’s title is the same as an old Portuguese fado tune by Amalia Rodrigues.

Stevie Nicks Honors Late Fleetwood Mac Member Christian McVie

On Wednesday, Fleetwood Mac’s Christine McVie died. She was 79. Now, bandmate Stevie Nicks mourns her death.

The 74-year-old took to social media to share a handwritten letter. In the note, she honors her friend and musical partner of multiple decades.

“A few hours ago, I was told that my best friend in the whole world since the first day of 1975 had passed away,” Nicks said. “I didn’t even know she was ill until late Saturday night.”

According to Nicks, since knowing that McVie was sick, she had contemplated Haim’s lyrics to “Hallelujah.” The song constitutes a friend that grieves the loss of another.

“I thought I might possibly get to sing it to her, and so, I’m singing it to her now,” she elaborated.

Nicks continued: “See you on the other side, my love. Don’t forget me.”

McVie’s family broke the news of the musician’s death on Wednesday morning. She died at a hospital in England following “a short illness.”

McVie boosted her career as a crucial member of Fleetwood Mac. In 1970, she joined the band after tying the know with the band’s bassist John McVie.

McVie Contributions

A few years into the ’70s, Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham entered the picture. Together, they released albums that turned into smash hits. It includes their self-titled album in 1975, Rumours in 1977, and Tusk in 1979.

McVie’s contributions to the band were pivotal factors in their success. She played the keyboard, often sang as lead, and served as the band’s most profuse songwriter. Notably, she wrote “Everywhere,” “Don’t Stop,” and “Little Lies.”

Fleetwood Mac’s members honored McVie as “truly one-of-a-kind, special and talented beyond measure” in a joint statement.

Additionally, another bandmate Mick Fleetwood paid tribute to McVie on social media.

He stated: “Part of my heart has flown away today.”

“This is a day where my dear sweet friend Christian McVie has taken to flight,” he stated. “And left us earthbound folks to listen with bated breath to the sounds of that ‘song bird’… reminding one and all that live is all around us to reach for and touch in this precious life that is gifted to us.”

Fleetwood Mac

Guitarist Peter Green, drummer Fleetwood, and guitarist Jeremy Spencer founded the band. John then joined the band for their debut album. And in 1968, Danny Kirwan entered the group as a third guitarist.

Fleetwood Mac topped the charts in the UK with “Albatross.” Other hits like “Oh Well,” “Man of the World,” and “The Green Manalishi” contributed to their success.

However, during the early 1970s, all three guitarists left the band one by one. That’s when guitarists Bob Welch, Bob Weston, and vocalist Dave Walker entered the picture.

But Welch, Weston, and Walker also exited the band by 1974. They had no male lead vocalist or a guitarist. So, Fleetwood scouted studios in Los Angeles and found Buckingham and Nicks.

He then tapped Buckingham to be in the band. She agreed with the condition that Nicks could join too.

Ang Lee to Helm Bruce Lee Biopic with son as the Martial Arts Legend

Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee to direct a biopic of late martial arts legend Bruce Lee. And maybe it will be a family affair.

According to EW, the director’s son, Mason Lee, will play the lead character in Bruce Lee.

Sony’s 3000 Pictures has released the project. Additionally, Ang Lee, Ben Everard, Lawrence Gray, Brian Bell and Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee are producing. Also, Dan Futterman is reportedly working on a draft script.

Bruce Lee died in 1973 at the age of 32. Many idolized the international actor who contributed to the popularity of martial arts in the film industry. His films, such as Fist of Fury, Enter the Dragon, The War of the Dragon, and The Big Boss, are legends.

“Accepted as neither fully American nor fully Chinese, Bruce Lee was a bridge between East and West who introduced Chinese Kung Fu to the world, a scientist of combat and iconic performing artist who revolutionized both the martial arts and action cinema,” Ang Lee said.

The filmmaker previously directed Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, a martial arts epic.

He added: “I feel compelled to tell the story of this brilliant, unique human being who yearned for belonging, possessed tremendous power in a 135-pound-frame, and who, through tireless hard work, made impossible dreams into reality.”

Recently, Mike Moh played Bruce Lee in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. But Shannon Lee criticized the film.

The film chronicles Bruce challenging stuntman Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) in a battle.

Shannon said the depiction of his father “comes across as an arrogant a-hole who was full of hot air.” Furthermore, she referred to the portrayal as disrespectful, mocking the legacy of Bruce Lee.

“I understand they want to make the Brad Putt character this super badass who could beat up Bruce Lee,” she stated. “But they didn’t need to treat him in the way that white Hollywood did when he was alive.”

Tarantino came to his portrayal’s defense.

He said: “Bruce Lee was kind of an arrogant guy.”

During an interview on Joe Rogan’s podcast, he said, “I can understand his daughter having a problem with it. It’s her f—king father. Everybody else: go suck a d—.”

Deadline initially reported the news on the biopic.

Bruce Lee Legacy

The martial arts star founded a hybrid martial arts philosophy called Jeet Kune Do. It draws from various combat disciplines that are sometimes attributed to breaking through modern mixed martial arts (MMA).

Critics and other martial artists considered Lee the all-time most influential martial artist, as well as a pop culture legend of the 20th century. Additionally, he connected the gaps between East and West.

Furthermore, the industry sees Lee as the person who promoted Hong Kong action cinema. He also played a role in changing the way Asians were presented in American movies.

His early martial arts encounters included Wing Chun (trained by Yip Man), tai chi, boxing, and street fighting.

‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Introduces Voice Actors

The Super Mario Bros. Movie previously introduced the actors who would portray the movie characters. It stars Chris Pratt, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad and Jack Black as Bowser.

Right now, the latest trailer introduces Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong and Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach. It also shows the start of his style of Mario Kart racing.

The last clip starts with a race between Mario and Kong in a stadium. Plus, they showed it off during a virtual Nintendo Direct presentation on Tuesday.

Although Mario cheers himself with a “Let’s-a-go!” the gorilla still beats him. The trailer also provides a sneak peek at Peach’s castle while she gets ready for a race against Bowser. She then spots Mario in his costume.

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic serve as directors of The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Jelenic previously directed Teen Titans Go! To the Movies

The film chronicles Bowser as he claims to be an unseen superstar. He then laughs evilly as Mario and his friends fight to end their plans for world domination.

In addition, the film sees Fred Armisen’s Cranky Kong, Kevin Michael Richardson’s Kamek, Sebastian Maniscalo’s Spike, and Charles Martinet as several characters. Notably, Martinet voiced Mario and Luigi in the games.

Mario Bros. with Cast

Ahead of Tuesday’s trailer, the production has released a teaser poster. Also depicted is a stained glass window in which Peach in the castle holds an empty throne. This is a pretty hilarious reference to the fact that Princesses in Mario Her games are often outside of their castles.

“I hope that you enjoyed the movie as much as I enjoyed working on it,” Taylor-Joy stated in the Nintendo Direct.

Rogen added: “For my entire life, I have been a fan of the worlds created by Mitamoto-san.”

“In fact, my dog is named Zelda. Ever since I was a kid playing Playchoice 10, I remember playing Marios Bros. and thinking: ‘If they ever make a movie of this, I better be in it.’ And I’m happy today that dream came true.”

Pratt butted in the conversion sharing his encounter with the Mario Bros.

“Growing up, man, I spend hours of my life stomping Koopas in the original Mario Bros. That dream, like all dreams, faces on critical challenge as in the film: I must face off against an utterly ruthless scene stealer,” he said.

“Every great hero needs a diabolical enemy. And I promise you I could not have been paired with a more King of Koopas, Bowser, my friend, the great and hilarious, supremely talented Jack Black!”

The Super Mario Bros. Movie premieres in theaters on April 7, 2023.
