Tuesday morning’s brief hearing in a Manhattan courthouse set an August trial date for the misdemeanor assault charge against actor Jonathan Majors.
The judge, Rachel S. Pauley, set the trial date for Mr. Majors for August 3 after a hearing that lasted less than five minutes. She also reminded him that the injunction prohibiting him from approaching the lady he is accused of assaulting is still in effect.
For a while, Jonathan Majors, dressed in a brown suit and a spotless white collared shirt, sat next to Meagan Good, an actress, in the back of the courtroom while wearing sunglasses. He said nothing during the hearing, which started at about 9:39 a.m. He welcomed the judge and thanked her for her directions but said nothing else as he stood before her.
Jonathan Majors was taken into custody in March following what the police called a “domestic dispute.” He was then charged with various misdemeanors in a complaint that included an arraignment. The victim, identified only as a 30-year-old woman, reportedly told detectives she had been assaulted and transported to a hospital after suffering injuries to her head and neck, according to the authorities early findings.
Mr. Majors’ attorneys have vehemently refuted the accusations. In a statement released Tuesday, one of his attorneys, Priya Chaudhry, claimed that “within a few weeks of these false allegations, we provided the district attorney with evidence of Mr. Majors’s innocence.”
She insisted that, rather than the other way around, the woman had attacked Mr. Majors. She stated, “while we are hopeful that the district attorney is reviewing these materials in good faith and will do the right thing soon, we’ve requested a trial date ASAP to expedite our case.”
In Hollywood, Jonathan Majors is a rising star who has given a number of performances that have distinguished him as a possible Oscar contender. In addition to appearing in “Magazine Dreams,” he co-starred in “Creed III,” which was released in March. His performance in “Magazine Dreams” received praise at the Sundance Film Festival. Jonathan Majors had Girlfriend Meagan Good’s Support at the Court
Jonathan Majors, 33, attended a hearing in person on Tuesday at Manhattan Criminal Court in New York City with girlfriend Meagan Good by his side. The couple was seen holding hands as Majors’ attorneys entered and left the court together on Tuesday morning.
The defense abandoned a motion it had previously made during Tuesday’s hearing that Majors virtually attended last month. After Majors’ arrest on March 25 and subsequent arraignment on many minor assault and harassment counts, Judge Rachel S. Pauley set an August 3 trial date in his case.
Jonathan Majors entered the courtroom dressed in a dark brown suits. He said good morning to the judge and thanked her for telling him to show up in person at Manhattan Criminal Court in August to begin his trial. The judge also mandated Majors to uphold the complete order of protection issued by the court for the case’s claimed victim.
In 2019, Jonathan Majors had a breakout year. He was featured in several films, but his emotional portrayal in the highly acclaimed drama The Last Black Man in San Francisco got him noticed. Montgomery (Mont) Allen, a playwright contending with gang violence and gentrification in a rapidly changing city, was played by Majors. Without a formal audition, the actor won a role in Spike Lee’s Da 5 Bloods. The critically acclaimed film follows a group of Vietnam soldiers who travel to Southeast Asia to reclaim the body of their squad leader. David, the son of one of the veterans, was played by Majors.
