Beyoncé Is Honored to Receive Major Recognition at the 2020 BET Awards

Beyoncé – Behind the cameras and spotlight, celebrities are also doing something out of the box. Their fame and influence are now widely used to help the minorities and advocate for what they believe in fight for. Many celebrities were nominated and after the tight and nerve-wracking deliberations, for 2020, Beyoncé is bound to receive a big and major honor at the upcoming 2020 BET Awards.

On June 25, the network have finally called that the BeyGOOD founder, Beyoncé, will be the recipient with the prestigious Humanitarian Award at the upcoming 20th annual BET Awards show, which will air on BET and CBS on Sunday (June 28) at 8 p.m. ET.

The BET Awards began recognizing and giving out the Humanitarian honor in 2002 to give praise and honor to the most notable celebrities who shared their time and money to charitable causes and other community based works. The honorees have included: Muhammad Ali, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Danny Glover, Denzel Washington and Pauletta Washington, Harry Belafonte, Don Cheadle, Quincy Jones, Alicia Keys and Wyclef Jean, John Legend, Steve Harvey, Rev. Al Sharpton, Dwayne Wade, Myrlie Evers-Williams, Tom Joyner, Jesse Williams, Chance the Rapper, Naomi Wadler, Mamoudou Gassama, Justin Blackman, Shaun King, Anthony Borges and James Shaw Jr. and, in 2019, Nipsey Hussle.

The big event will be commemorate the artists who have done for the community and the merriment will add more to the event’s star-packed company, and that includes a pay homage tribute to late NBA Lakers star Kobe Bryant by Lil Wayne and Little Richard by comedian/singer Wayne Brady. 

Due to the pandemic that is till threatening the lives of many, the virtual broadcast will also pay their honor to Nicolas Johnson, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, and D-Nice as the 2020 Shine a Light Honorees, which exemplifies “exceptional resilience, ingenuity and creativity in the face of adversity.”

Also, Assa Traoré, French anti-racist activist will be also receiving an honor with the 2020 BET International Global Good award, which recognizes advocates who fearlessly uses their influence and voices, who use their platform to social responsibility and betterment of the many, while showing compassion and a commitment to the welfare of each community. 

The prestigious event will also feature performances from the notable artists like Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, Roddy Ricch, DaBaby, Black Thought, Chloe X Halle, Jay Rock, Karen Clark Sheard, Megan Thee Stallion, John Legend, Kane Brown, Jahi, Nas, Kierra Sheard, Public Enemy, Questlove, Rapsody, Summer Walker and YG.

Terrence J and Erica Ash, who are known for being the BET veterans, will co-host the first interactive pre-show featuring celebrities, nominees and special guests on BET starting at 7 p.m. ET. BET Amplified Artists Masego and Lonr will also be given the opportunity to shine with additional performances from Usher, D Smoke, Jonathan McReynolds, SiR and SIR.

The event will be filled with appearances include and reflect on social justice issues include: Congresswoman Maxine Waters, along with leading entertainers Billy Porter, Quavo, Courtney B. Vance, Sterling K. Brown, Debbie Allen, Michael B. Jordan, Deon Cole, La La Anthony, Samuel L. Jackson, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, Lena Waithe, Lizzo, Misty Copeland, Naomi Campbell, Omari Hardwick, Quincy Jones, Rapsody, Regina Hall, Saweetie, Viola Davis and Whoopi Goldberg.
