Audika will release a new album featuring nine previously unreleased tracks by the late musician and composer Arthur Russell. Titled ‘Picture of Bunny Rabbit’, the recording will be available from June 23rd. The lead track “The Boy With a Smile” is currently available for streaming.
The album’s tracks were recorded at Battery Sound in New York in 1985 or 1986, and additional material was recorded in Russell’s East Village apartment. The collection incorporates the title track, “Image of Bunny,” which was composed for a companion’s pet hare.
According to the record’s Bandcamp description, the masters for the tracks were found on two test pressings, one of which was provided by Russell’s mother and sister.
Russell only had one solo album, “World of Echo,” released during his lifetime before he went unexpectedly in 1992. Many of his posthumous recordings have since become timeless masterpieces as a result of the vast collection and reissue of his music since his passing.
“Iowa Dream,” released in 2019, is the most recent album to include significant previously unreleased material. Fans and pundits the same will most likely be anxious to hear the beforehand unheard tracks on “Image of Bunny” and perceive how they fit into Russell’s as of now amazing collection of work.
